Good morning. I hope you’ve had a great week.
I was reflecting this week on where I was and
what I was doing 50 years ago tomorrow when man
first set foot on the moon.
I was in the Army, in the barracks in Fort Lee,
Virginia, lying on my bunk bed watching our
rented black and white television site, and
amazed at the technology that had led to the
event.
I had very few worries back then, other than
to do my job and count down the days until I
was discharged and could get back to normal
civilian life.
There was no war going on in Virginia, obviously,
and clothing, meals, housing, such as they were,
were all taken care of. I think I might have been
making less than $200 per month, but so what?
All I needed money for was to go out once or
twice a week with friends to get pizza and a
beer or two.
Life was easy, life was good.
And now look at the technology, light years
beyond the black and white television set that
was our primary link to the world back then.
The pace of everyday living has certainly
increased. So too the stress. So too the
rewards for jobs well done, or whatever it is
that a person does for a living.
I was wondering if life was better then or
better now.
Certainly it was easier then.
But I’ll take now.
