As we drift into summer here in the northern hemisphere, the days
get longer, but at the same time the nights get shorter. We still
only have 24 hours to work with, how are you making best use of
your time?

Are you using Action Enforcer (free to members), for example? I do,
and couldn’t be without it.

There’s an interesting discussion about productivity not being as
important as creativity, what do you think (linked further below).

My feeling is, creativity is awesome. One good creative idea can
change your life.

But to me, productivity is the difference between having more time
to spend doing the things you like with your family, friends, or
for your business, while waiting for the next creative thought.

And if you aren’t productive, you won’t have as much free time to
spend just thinking about things.

Both are important, which are you going to work on today?

Special announcement:

If you’ve been following me in the Kindle Case Study, which is
currently sort of paused, but will start up again soon for phase 2,
you know I produced a book about stress.

And you know how horribly stress affected me from about the age of
35 on for quite a while. The symptoms went away after I self
diagnosed stress as the cause and took measures to cope with it,
but I still catch myself needing to calm down and relax when I
notice the symptoms occasionally.

And you know how I came to find out that stress is a major
contributor to most of the biggest causes of death, such as cancer,
heart and lung diseases, suicide and accidents.

And my research concluded that it can also destroy relationships,
cause loss of productivity that can erode job performance…

To say nothing of the fact that the medical profession will be
quick to advise specialists, pills, surgeries, when all you
sometimes need to do is chill out (but that’s not profitable
advice, is it?)…

All bad.

My book has been selling well, at a very low price, and when I
bought Andy Brocklehurst’s iCurator Pro this week, and was looking
for something to do with it, the first thing I thought of was a
little app to help people relieve stress.

out, I’d be interested in feedback because I’m pretty sure stress
affects almost 100% of us, right?

I’m trying to play catchup this week with some things, you’ll
notice there are more new downloads that normal, I’m still behind
on getting them loaded up to some degree, but not so much now.
There’s some pretty good stuff this week, so have fun with it.

I’m also behind on Product Drop downloads, so I need to catch up
some more there also.

Next on the agenda will be converting the WP Twin sales page over
to the new scheme which will no longer give unlimited domain
licenses. That has to be done by this time next week, so as soon as
Rachel gets back, that’s top priority. If you have been thinking of
getting that, now’s definitely the time. What you pay for 10 domain
licenses next week will be more than you pay for unlimited today.

Then we’ll start concentrating on the seminar, which is in August.
Affiliates have been asking “when can we send traffic to the sales
page?” and that’s a fair question. We’re close to finalizing the
agenda, and it looks like this one will be the best ever,
especially in terms of attendance and networking opportunities.

What’s slowed me down a bit is that I’m working on ideas to get
more people in the seats, so that I can reduce ticket prices, each
of which will be a win-win for everybody, hopefully.

We only have one unconfirmed speaker left, and if he doesn’t get
in touch with me soon, I’ll find someone else for the slot. There
have been quite a few volunteers, so it won’t be a problem.

Stay tuned, and save the dates of August 10-12.

On a personal note, I took a couple days this week to shop for
condos again, and yesterday made an offer on one that we liked. I’m
expecting the owner to think that I offered too little, but we’ll
see how motivated he is to sell, and go from there.

And finally, I mentioned last week that I was going to be talking
to one of the old time gurus this week, Jim Edwards. We had a really
great conversation, almost an hour long, and it looks like we’re
going to be working together on a joint project that’s really
exciting.

Assuming this one works, and I’m sure it will, I can see this being
something sort of scalable and teachable. It’s not something super
new and amazing, but it really takes advantage of something we all
know about but mostly don’t do, and makes it fun and viral.

Anyway, I’ve been following Jim since for many years, and he’s one
of the good guys that I’ve always respected, which made me very happy
that he’s willing to work with me on this.

[Earn1KaDay] Google changes, one-third down, and other updates…

Can you believe that almost a third of the year is done? OMG, what
happened when I wasn’t looking?

This week has been just a blur. Brad Gosse proved me wrong, I said
an IM book would never get much attention on Amazon, and I heard it
got as high as #41 on the overall best seller list.

That actually is good news, as I plan on writing a new book myself
for another Kindle case study. It won’t be about IM exactly (but
close since that’s what I am lately), and I’ll take to heart some
of his launch ideas which definitely worked.

I’ve been trying to figure out what to put into the book for weeks
now, and decided to just sit down and use Freemind and let ideas
flow, and in an hour came up with a great table of contents rough
draft.

If you don’t use a mind mapping program, you should consider it.

Two of our best selling products, including one that has been
selling well for about a year and a half, are changing drastically
as far as pricing. One of the changes is outside my control. I’ll
be sending emails about those over the course of today and the
weekend, keep a watch out, as it represents a true last chance that
you don’t want to miss, or an opportunity for affiliates to profit
big time, if you’re quick.

Remember, money loves speed.

Rachel’s away at a 3 day seminar. My wife and I are going to
Atlantic City for condo shopping again Sunday and Monday. I’ve sort
of narrowed it down, now I just need to make sure my wife likes it,
and start negotiating with the buyer.

One of my email subscribers introduced me by email to a true IM
legend that I’ve followed for a long time, Jim Edwards, and we
might be collaborating on something.

Along with my being introduced to Jim Edwards this week by a
friend of his who’s an email subscriber of mine, it really puts
the “6 degrees of separation” idea into perspective.

IBook Insider Review

This is a product review on IBook Insider, another product in our review series.

IBook Insider seeks to provide you with step-by-step training on how to get your books published to the iBook store.

What our reviewer had to say:

This was presented as a PDF and 9 videos. The information appears for the most part to be sound and will provide the reader with a good guide for publishing to the iBook Store via Lulu.com.

This is Version 2 of this guide, because in the first, Lulu was the only method she covered. In this version, Deborah has added some Smashwords information.

The Lulu information is covered in 15 pages and includes a lot of screenshots. The Smashwords information is covered in 3 pages and contains links to free videos on YouTube and to someone else’s training. The information she actually does provide is a brief overview and a formatting quick list.

Normally, I wouldn’t have a problem with that, because she says quite plainly that she hasn’t actually used the Smashwords method herself, but that she is just putting it in there as another option the reader might explore. My problem comes from the fact that she felt the need to make a version 2 to include information that is really incomplete and not based on her own experience. It seems a little deceptive. I really don’t think that was her intention, but to someone who doesn’t know her, it might appear that way.

There are 9 videos, and only videos 6-9 are covered in the PDF. I have a tough time with almost everybody’s videos, and Deborah’s were no different. I don’t like videos in general, unless they are extremely well done. Deborah talks very slow, rambles a lot and repeats herself often. I watched the videos at double speed. I know that’s partly just my own intolerance to video; other people may not have a problem with it.

I did find a couple of points where Deborah was incorrect. One was when she removed the numbers from the table of contents. She said that it has to be a manual process, which isn’t true at all. That, just like everything else in word, can be adjusted in the related settings.

The other point was about the size of the Kindle cover. She said that it should be 500 x 800. That is no longer true, but the change to the size requirement probably came after she wrote this course. The new minimum size is at least 1000 pixels on the longest side.

Overall Impression:

All in all, this was a pretty good guide. For me, it would have been nice to have everything in the PDF and just not watch the videos at all.

Product Creator Pro allows you to quickly and easily create stunning books, newsletters, reports, and more. Product creation has never been easier.

This is a step by step process that will help you create a professional looking product that you will be proud to put your name on.

What our second reviewer said:

Product Creator Pro is a product design platform. It claims to be a push-button simple way to create beautiful ebooks, reports and newsletters. You simply create your document in Word, then log into Product Creator Pro and let it do the rest.

1. You choose a product type (eBook, Report, or Newsletter.)
2. Then, you choose your cover.
3. Personalize by uploading a cover image, a logo, and an author photo. This is also the step where you enter your title and subtitle. If you haven’t already set up your profile, you can do that here too, so your name gets pulled as the author.
4. Choose your page template. This is the layout and style of the pages within your eBook. You can also choose a single column or double column layout.
5. This is where you upload your Word document.
6. You will then be taken to an editor, where you can look over your document and do any editing that you need to do.
7. The final step is where you preview and download your document.

Now, here are some thoughts about all of the above.

When uploading a cover image and author photo, it doesn’t give any guidance about what size to use, and you have no control in positioning them. They will be placed according to the sample shown, so you have to try to guess what size photo is going to fit and then just try again if it doesn’t work. Not every cover uses the same size pictures.

Whatever you set in the profile is the information that’s going to be on the cover. You aren’t allowed to save multiple profiles, although I’m told that will be available later at a higher price. You can change the information each time you go through it if you want different information on different products.

It ONLY accepts .docx so you must use a newer version of Word to be able to upload your document. You are able to cut and paste though if you need to.

The preview is kind of hard to really check out. It would be nice to have a zoom feature, so you can really get a good look before you use a download credit on it. If you need to change something after the preview, you have the option of using the Back button to get to the part you want to change, or click Start Over to clear everything and start again. A Navigation bar would be great, so you could go right to the one thing you need to change.

You can’t force a page break if you don’t like the way things look. You also can’t use tables.

There are currently two options on pricing. You can go with a free version which allows 3 download credits per month and limited page templates, and has “created by Cover Creator Pro” on all of your downloads. Or you can choose the Premium version which costs $299 per year and gives you 20 downloads per month, no branding on your finished products, access to all of the page templates. It also provides some additional training. Image credits do not roll over from one month to the next. Each month you will start with the monthly allotment.

If you sign up for the free version and then upgrade from within your account, you are given some additional options for payment: $49 per month, $129 per quarter, $199 per six-months, or $299 per year.

Product Creator Pro is something I’ve been very excited about, and still am. The functionality is a little limited right at the moment, but I know the developers are working on adding new features. They’ve already added image support, which wasn’t available when I first started testing this.

Here is a list of things that it won’t do, but I’m told are coming:

Multiple user profiles (additional cost)
Zoom feature for the product preview.
Kindle support.
CreateSpace support (probably after Kindle)
Navigation bar for the steps.
Support for tables, page breaks, background colors, and non-standard fonts.

Honestly, although it seems like it might be best to wait until the features are added to upgrade to the premium version, I have a feeling that with added features, the price may go up. I don’t know this for sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Once some of its limitations are addressed, this is going to be very powerful.

3 Things I Learned From Chronic Marketer…

Hey everyone, Rachel here!

I have a long list of blog entries to write, but I decided to push them aside to write about Chronic Marketer – Brad Gosse’s new book.

I intended to write about it sooner, but I took a small side trip to Zion National Park with a friend and got sidetracked.

Brad sent me a copy of his book a few weeks ago. I started reading it as soon as I got it and digested the whole thing within a few hours.

It’s definitely a very controversial book… but like with most things, I am choosing to listen to the MESSAGE versus be judgmental around the way it’s communicated.

That being said, here are the top 3 things I’ve gotten from Brad’s book:

1. Change what you don’t like. While Brad’s book helps to teach a lot about internet marketing, one of the top things I got from the book was a side tangent he went over. He mentions how when he goes to restaurants, if there is a long wait, he chooses not to accept that. He says on page 224:

“Personally, I don’t like to wait in line for anything. Call me entitled. I don’t care. I will walk up to the host or hostess with a folded $20 bill in my hand and quietly hand it to them asking if there’s anything they can do to expedite things for us. I have never been denied a table using this method. 60 minutes of my time is worth far more than $20.”

I LOVE this!

Sure… we could follow rules, but as entrepreneurs, I don’t think that’s what we’re here to do. We’re here to LEAD.

So taking this concept into internet marketing… if you don’t like doing something, don’t accept it! Outsource it. Extinguish it from your business model. Re-frame it so you DO like it. Whatever it is, make sure you’re getting to work in as empowering mindset as often as possible.

2. Don’t be the one to ask for money. I LOVE this one!! If you’re offering any kind of service, you probably will too. Brad says that when he is approached – either through social media, IMs, or after a talk, about being hired… he’ll tell them to book an appointment with his assistant.

His assistant is the one who gives the prospect all the information about pricing.

His rationale is that his assistant is a gatekeeper. She creates a wall, and when there is a wall, people feel more inclined to deal with your protocol.

They also have less price resistance.

And at the end of the day… they’ll either follow your rules or they won’t.

I realize that this may be controversial, but personally, I LOVE it.

If people are going to complain about the way Brad runs things, then they’re not his ideal client anyway.

I’d definitely recommend doing this.

3. Be yourself. I have no doubt that there are going to be some people who are unhappy about my mentioning this book. Brad mentions drugs, curses up a storm, and is basically 100% politically incorrect.

But at the end of the day, people who are attracted to him will fight for him for LIFE. They will feel very close to him. He’ll have an extremely loyal group of followers.

And for anyone who doesn’t like him… they’ll self select out. They’re doing Brad a favor. Now he only gets to work with people who love him. Who doesn’t want that?

This has been something I’ve been learning to do myself… giving more blog posts even though most people want the bright, shiny objects… using my “feeler”, hippie language… and unabashedly signing off “With love”.

Some people like it, some people don’t… but at the end of the day, I’ll have the best kind of tribe I can hope for – a tribe of people who appreciate me.

I highly recommend you do the same thing. If people don’t like you, screw ‘em – there’s BILLIONS more where they came from!

Bonus: Plan ahead. Brad had planned his book launch well ahead of time. He sent out lots of review copies, got support from fellow marketers, and made an INCREDIBLE sales page (check it out here).

All of his planning and focus paid off bigtime, because at one time he was #51 on OVERALL Amazon bestsellers (and possibly higher). At the time of this writing, he’s #1 in web marketing, #1 in e-commerce, and #1 in general business.

That’s kind of AMAZING… and definitely shows the power of a well thought out plan and focus towards it.

[Earn1KaDay] Updates about an exhausting week…

It was a pretty slow week on the forum this week, did my being away
for the first couple days make that much of a difference?

My wife and I were going to go down to Atlantic City to shop for
condos again, but she had a foot problem and couldn’t walk. So
instead of us going down for 2 days, I went for one day, just to
meet the realtor and not lose the opportunity, since he had set up
a bunch of appointments.

I was a little disappointed in the selection, nothing was perfect,
but we did narrow it down to a couple that hold promise, so once I
find out more details on them, my wife will join me on another trip.

I really want to move in somewhere while the weather is still nice
and warm, but don’t want to just “settle” for something not close
to perfect.

With that, and all the tax work, ugh, and Rachel’s huge launch that
caused a lot of support issues (not an unusual amount percentage
wise, but 2% of 4000 orders is a lot more than 5% of 200 orders).

Next week will be back to normal, hopefully.

Since there’s not as much to talk about this week as normal, I’d
like to fill in the gap by saying thank you.

It was brought home to me again this week during Rachel’s launch
of Kindle Outsourcing, which has now ended. We had an affiliate
contest where we were giving away $5000 in prizes, and some of
the top affiliates on the ‘net promoted the offer multiple times
in some cases.

They did pretty well, I have to admit, but when the final numbers
were counted, the sales made by Rachel and I were almost 200 sales
above the top outside affiliate. We sent our traffic to a separate
sales page, so though it gave affiliate credit to cookied affiliates,
I still know the sales came from our emails.

I know for a fact that the email lists of some of the other
affiliates absolutely dwarfed our list size, so it’s nice to know
that the relationships we’ve built are working.

I just want you to know that we appreciate your support and will
keep working to retain it in the future.

Kindle Secret Niches, Vol. 1 is an interesting companion to Kickstart Kindle Promotion. I’m guessing that she is bundling these products. This product shares some popular but overlooked niches. These would be good areas for writers who have an interest in these niches.

I’m not sure if the two products would be good bundled together. The Kickstart product is for someone who has books already published on Kindle. If they were looking to expand their niches, this might be of benefit. It’s been my experience that most writers have more ideas than they could ever tackle in a lifetime, so they are not looking for more. The niche selection is more of a product of interest to newbies.

This would be a good low-priced entry level product leading into a funnel of support for writers all through the process. As an intro product, this has all sorts of possibilities.

Depending on the sales package, this would also be a good product to promote as a follow-up to Rachel’s outsourcing course. Niche ideas are perfect for someone who has little personal interest in a niche and will outsource most of the writing.

Rachel might think about offering her outsourcing product as an upsell to this product. She could also promote this as a low-cost product for those who have already purchased the outsourcing product.

Amy goes over several different methods that may not be known to the average Kindle author. I’ve read several products on Kindle and most of what she goes over has not been in them.

As a bonus, she includes a check list that will walk you through the process she outlines.

Overall this is a good product for the beginning and intermediate Kindle author.

This is the product that I wish I had written and have been planning to for quite awhile.

I really like the fact that it consists of written material and screenshots. She covers the ways to take advantage of Amazon’s fantastic publicity features. She also covers the most important social networking sites for authors.

The videos for this product are simply an overview and don’t really add value. I don’t see this as a problem since the target audience is writers who, in my experience, would much rather read than view videos.

What a great week it’s been, how about you?

The weather has been beautiful and this weekend is supposed to be
up around 80 degrees.

I finished my tax returns and am looking forward to a nice refund
from the government, which is going to enable me to start looking
for a vacation condo in Atlantic City again (we’re going to see
some buildings on Monday).

Plus, finally we broke through a glass ceiling number on Tuesday,
more about that later.

Life is good.
