We made it to February. Wow. Still around 2
months left to the winter, depending on what
the groundhog finds out tomorrow.
My wife had a little surgery last week, and
I had another relapse to an existing condition
which will mean a little surgery for me soon
as well.
No big deal. But getting older isn’t for the
faint of heart, as a friend mentioned to me
in an email last week.
Neither is running an online business. There
are so many spots where IMers tend to want to
build their castles, on someone else’s beach.
Like Google’s, or Facebook’s, or lately
Instagram’s.
I’ve seen many assume that it was safe to
continue to use methods that rely on others,
such as SEO rankings on Google, article
marketing, Facebook, Squidoo, etc., and
have the rug pulled out from under them.
I experienced that myself when I was using
Google AdWords for my main (only) traffic
method, and then the Google Slap came
along, which was doomsday for many.
Fortunately I had other income streams
also, but that one hurt, and if it would
have been my only income stream, it
would have been devastating.
You need your own beach, and yes, you can
tread lightly on the other sand as well, but
don’t count on it for the long term, or you
might be disappointed.
That’s why I always like to find new ideas

even have a new income stream or two as an
idea that you can build on your own beach.
Oh, for a nice warm beach around now. It
was 5 degrees yesterday morning, and not
that much warmer today.
