Thank you to all who took the time to respond
to last week’s update, saying that they indeed
do read them on a weekly basis. Your kind
words made my day, and I guess will inspire
me to keep doing this for another 11 years
or so.
And to those who read the email and didn’t
respond, thank you to you also for continuing
to open and read my remarks, which I often
struggle to come up with. 
But writing is what I do. I have always
loved to write, since college days when
my then-girlfriend convinced me to write
for the school paper she was editor of.
It was a small school, and I think I
was the only person she could come
up with, so I ended up writing pretty
much every article in the (small)
paper.
And before that, when I was a child, I
started many a book, along the “It was
a dark and stormy night” theme, but they
never got published, or finished, or even
past the first page most likely.
My parents bought me a little typewriter,
sort of a toy but it did the job, and I
taught myself touch typing from a vinyl
record. That skill was one of the most
valuable I ever learned, and allowed
me to have a cushy job as a company
clerk in the military rather than on the
front lines.
If only there would have been Kindle as
a place to publish back then, who knows
what I might have done. Perhaps an entire
dark and stormy night series.
Now we have so much opportunity, it’s
amazing. Powerful computers not only on
our desktops or laps, but also in our
pockets or purses.
The entire knowledge of the world at
our fingertips, pretty much, except for
the classified stuff. But we have to
filter past the fake news and gossip,
unless we like to read that also.
I can only wish I were young again,
or even just middle age, so I could
look forward to seeing what the next
50 years will bring.
Is the Internet the be-all, do-all,
tool, or how will it be topped in
the future?
I can only guess, but I won’t, so
I’ll just concern myself today with
this week’s forum updates…
