Do you ever look at the list of holidays?

It’s quite interesting sometimes. Today, for example, at least in the
U.S., is Arbor Day, we’re encouraged to plant a tree or something, but
I haven’t in a long while.
Yesterday was “Take our daughters and sons to work day”. That’s a good
one, and if you work from home, an easy one to celebrate, right?
May Day is a big holiday in some places in Europe, I know, because
when I had my last job, I was scheduled to travel to Amsterdam and I
think Germany and France for my employer to visit our sales offices
there, and meet with the people who ran them.
I was tech support manager for the company, and talked with these
people on the phone all the time, so it was going to be nice to meet
them in person, and the trip was covering the week that included May
Day.
In fact, it meant I had to get a passport for the first time, since
all my prior international travel had been as part of the military,
and back in those days, you didn’t need a passport to enter Canada.
But a couple weeks before it was scheduled, I gave notice that I was
leaving, and they decided to cancel the trip… so I missed the
opportunity to experience a real May Day.
That was my last job, in 1981, and since then I’ve worked for myself.
Even with the occasional challenges, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Anyway, holiday or not, if you make every day into a special day, you
can’t lose.
