This morning has the crisp feel of a beautiful autumn day. Not too
cold, not warm or muggy yet (but should warm up by the afternoon).
Just right for a nice walk on the boardwalk by the ocean, which I
think I’ll do once this email is sent to you.
One of this week’s newsworthy events was the announcement that eBay
and PayPal will be divided into separate companies again. eBay
purchased PayPal in 2002 for a reported sum of $1.5 billion
dollars, and I suspect the value is higher now, so I won’t be
making an offer for them myself.
However if someone does buy them out, I hope they’re friendly to
Internet marketers. I’ve heard Google might be a likely takeover
candidate, and that sends chills up my spine. Many of us have been
terminated from the Adsense and/or Adwords programs, and there is
life after that, but to be terminated from PayPal, that’s a worst
case scenario for a business like ours, right?
Even if you don’t receive money through them all that often, think
about how much easier it is to pay with PayPal than the
alternative.
I was an early user of PayPal (probably on the first day), and
their predecessor X.com (remember them?), and eBay’s Billpoint
(remember them?). And of course I was a long time eBay seller and
still have the nice jacket they gave me after I reached the 10,000
feedback score way back when. I don’t think they give incentives
away like they used to, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, I hope both companies survive intact, and I sure would hate
to see the rumor of Alibaba taking over eBay come true, though it
does make sense.
