Intern Profits Review

by Rachel Rofe

Our first review is on Intern Profits, a course that promises to teach internet marketers how they can hire interns (for free) to work on their business.

Here’s what out reviewers said about it:

Review #1:

This is an extremely nice, well put together website.

Very clean, very professional.

I think the website and all it entails good be highly valuable to the right person.

That said …

In general, intern profits appears to be primarily aimed at … not the IM crowd, but folks with brick & mortar businesses …

Here’s why …

From a response from “Dreama” on the home page…

Tere,
The interns listed on our site are specifically for in office interns because they are coming from abroad and this is a requirement for their Visa. There are plenty of virtual interns available however that you can find either by contacting colleges and universities directly or via submitting a job description on line at the numerous online internship sites.

And this comment:

Gary,
I’ll address your questions individually.
Work from home: some schools will only allow their students to work in a traditional office environment however you can find a lot of students who want a “virtual internship.” Meaning they would work from their own home or school just like a virtual assistant would that you may be more familiar with the concept. If you wanted to have a local student work for you on your investment business you could always arrange to meet him or her in a neutral location like a coffee shop or restaurant. So being a home-based business does not preclude you from having an intern but you should look for a virtual intern and plan to meet him or her outside your home if they are a local student.
Visa: You don’t need a visa for an intern unless they are coming from abroad (outside of the US) to actually “LIVE” in the US. If you are interested in an international student you can have a look at our Available Interns on the membership site from our partners, Intern Scout.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

They do discuss virtual interns, but with their hookup with InternScouts, it looks like they will be pushing more of the b&m business type internship arrangement.

There are some good tools for assignments for interns, and this information could be very helpful

My biggest criticism of the site is that it’s a “concept” site — “use interns to grow your business” — they are badly in need of some copy (imnsho) to help people get a better idea of their offerings.  The site is slightly confusing in that regard.  But the quality seems to be decent.

When asked if Rachel should email her list about it:

She knows her list a lot lot better than I do.
I have already said quite a bit about who I think this is best for; so — if her list is primarily internet marketers, maybe not.
If it’s offline marketers — then some of the strategies might be something that they can help out their B&M clients.
If they are B&M folks themselves — then yes, absolutely.

Review #2:

At first glance, there is a LOT of information on the site, which is good but at the same time takes awhile to go through. The Mentoring Book and Modules of the Internet Profit Systems are very thorough and easy to follow. The rest of the information is great and nicely laid out as well. The Easy Intern Assignments are so easy to follow and something that is perfect to give to your intern. That in itself, well help you save time and effort.

Suggestions for improvement:

* Have transcripts for the FAQ instead of just videos. I’m one of those people that would prefer to scan a PDF than sit and listen to a video.
* It seems that the Intern Profit Systems is the main thing for the site. If it is, then it should be the second tab (after Home) instead of the 5th tab. It’ll make it easier for people to find. It took me a few minutes to figure out how everything was related on the site. It would have been easier if this was the first tab I went to after reading the Home page.
* The process map is AWESOME! It really should be highlighted somewhere other than a link on the sidebar. I would suggest putting it on the home page, so people know how to go through the steps in the easiest manner.

Overall, I think this is a great site and I can’t wait to get more into it!

Follow-Up:

As far as InternProfits and whether she should send it to her list, I would recommend that she pass on this. I just don’t think the site is as organized and easy to follow as it could be. And I agree, it doesn’t seem geared towards IMers. There is a lot of work going into finding an intern – writing a job description, posting it, talking to the schools, writing a summary for them to take back to school if they are working for the credit. Personally, I don’t think I would go through all that find help. I would go to some other websites. In one of the videos “What will your intern do?” she tells you to first draw out your org chart and find a spot of them. To me, that’s marketing more towards bigger businesses or even small businesses but ones that are established vs someone in IM just looking for help.
