How’s your summer been so far? Ours has been hot, humid, hot,
sticky, hot, muggy, and hot. Other than that it’s been beautiful.
Still I’ll take it over 2 foot snowfalls, below freezing
temperatures as a high for the day, and all that comes with winter
in the north east.

I spent most of my week working on my 5 Bucks a Day book from 2006.
I know, I’m supposed to be working on the sequel, but I wanted to
learn how to self publish on Amazon.
And I know, it was on Amazon already, but that was through Lulu, I
wanted to do it the right way, directly to Amazon using their
createspace brand, so I set that up as one of my main projects for
the week.
True, selling this book probably won’t generate me $5 a day income,
but the skills I develop doing this one should be very lucrative
for future projects.
Formatting a physical book, I found out, is much different than
formatting an eBook. I learned a lot this week, and it will come in
handy in the future, as I have plans on publishing more on Amazon
as well as for the Kindle and iPad.
You should too, it’s a tremendous way to gain credibility, and
maybe a little income here and there.
Along the way, I decided I needed a better cover than the one I
made with Lulu, so I tried something else new, Fiverr.com. This
thread was just meant to show off the great cover I got (or thought
I got):

and it turned out that a lot of people absolutely hated that cover.
Phil_M did an alternative, which is spectacular, which I’m going to
use. And thanks to everyone who commented in the thread setting me
straight, as well as those who PM’ed me with suggestions and their
own alternative covers.
Anyway, the point is, self publishing isn’t all that hard, but
there are some things you need to watch out for. I used one of the
Amazon publishing guides (there are quite a few available, the one
I ended up using isn’t officially available yet).
If there’s any interest, after I get this finished (I just need to
wait for my proof copy to arrive to see how it looks), I can
probably write up a short tips guide.
