Year end review, looking ahead to 2010, and more

by 5buckguy

Happy New Year! In fact, Happy New Decade!

Remember 10 years ago when everyone was stressing out about Y2K? It
seems like so long ago, doesn’t it? So much has happened since
then, not all of it good at all, but life goes on and hope springs
eternal, thank goodness.

Just think, 10 years ago Google was just getting started, and eBay
was still friendly to the small seller, here’s a look at the site
in February 2000:
http://web.archive.org/web/20000229082150/http://www.ebay.com/

If you click through the “see all featured” link, then on “going,
going, gone”, you’ll see what probably was one of my old listings
for leather jackets. The bidding started at $1.00, but was ending
at $30.00 for the 19 lucky winners. :-) Too bad you can’t click
down to the actual auction itself, but the wayback machine doesn’t
keep every page in it’s archives.

And looking at Google through the archives in 2000, they didn’t
have a privacy policy on their home page. Shame on them.

Personally, I had no clue what an IM’er was at the time. If you
want to see my first attempt at a website, take a deep breath, hold
your nose, and look at this:
http://web.archive.org/web/20000407114404/http://www.beanietags.com/

I’ve made some progress since then.

Anyway …

Have you made new year’s resolutions, or set goals? I prefer to
call goals “promises” myself, because if I promise myself I’ll do
something there’s more of a chance that it will get done, than if I
“set a goal”. To me it seems like a goal is something that won’t
make me feel bad if I back out of, where a promise will disappoint
me if it’s missed.

Anyway, I don’t want to stop you from your partying, so let’s wrap
up this year in style, shall we?

I sent you a note about this earlier this week so you could get a
jump on planning for 2010, did this prove useful? Make a post in
the thread if it did. I had one reader send me an email saying he
forwarded the link to the download to his list of 20,000 subscribers.

Last week, I promised that I’d share my year end wrap up thoughts
with you. So here goes.

At the end of 2008, I placed 6 major projects on my white board
that I hoped to accomplish in 2009. Of the six, one got done.
That’s the bad news.

Well, maybe two. One of my projects that I listed was setting up
another membership site. I had an idea in mind, but instead I ended
up purchasing Daily Seminar in early March. So I guess that counts
as a new site for me.

That Daily Seminar project ended up taking up a lot of my time, and
still isn’t close to breaking even financially, but I’d do it again
in a heartbeat. Just listening to every single seminar while
proofreading the transcripts was a tremendous education. If you
were a member, and you went through all the seminars, I have no
doubt you were the better for it, without having to spend almost
40K.

One of the things I wanted to do was to triple the size of my email
list. It only doubled, so count that as a miss, but still progress.

And then there was the opportunity to pick up private branding
rights for Action Enforcer, which has been successful beyond my
wildest dreams for myself and some of my affiliates. Using it has
totally changed my life, how about yours? If you’re not using it to
force yourself to focus on what’s important on a daily basis,
you’re falling behind. At the time it was the most I had paid for
a PLR product, but it was well worth the risk.

I learned in 2009 that people who said you have to go to seminars
knew what they were talking about. Before I made excuses about why
I couldn’t get away. How sad, because it just isn’t the same to
talk to someone by email, forum posting, or even by phone as it is
to talk face to face in a restaurant or bar.

I had the privilege of meeting in person some awesome people, some
of whom have become partners. This time last year I don’t think I
had even heard of Jason Fladlien or Tim Castleman, for example. I
had heard of Robert Plank, but wasn’t impressed. Things sure
change. I won’t start mentioning people I met at the seminar, or at
the Warrior Event, for fear that I’ll forget someone inadvertently.

For 2010 I’m not going plan so many grandiose projects. My projects
that weren’t completed in 2009 are still on my white board, but I’m
going to do more monthly or quarterly planning, rather than yearly.

And I do have a new membership site coming very soon, which I’m
very, very excited about. As a member of Earn1KaDay you’ll have
access to it for no extra charge, which I hope I don’t regret. I
expect that it will cause the membership fee to rise (but not for
current members of course).

We’re ending the year at Earn1KaDay with membership down just a
little. The economy took its toll, but as of yesterday there are
now over 400 packages in the download area. There could be a lot
more, but I refuse to upload just any old crap. Expect to see a
few things a week in the future, plus the new membership site that
I mentioned above will give you more content to absorb.

The year went quickly. I’m disappointed about the things that
didn’t get done, but pleased with what took their place. 2009
started with the Earn1KaDay seminar, an unforgettable experience
for me. Will there be another one? Not sure, but it won’t be in
January this year, I can tell you that. If there are enough people
that tell me they’ll attend, I could be convinced.

What else? Oh, yeah, I learned how to do webinars. Thanks, Jason
and Robert. It gave me the opportunity to partner with some
incredible people and come out with joint products. There will be
more of the same in 2010, I’m sure.

2010 will be the year that I finally learn to outsource. I’m taking
advantage of Rachel Rofe’s service, and I urge you to also:
http://www.e1kad.com/burnyourtodolist

That’s an incredible service she set up, at an amazing price. I
wish I would have thought of it first.

Part of what comes out of my outsourcing will (finally) be the
articles for the rent-a-site model I talked about several months
ago. And much more after that’s under way.

Sorry for rambling, but I love to be transparent, and those are the
things that are on my mind. A couple weeks ago, I started a thread
that I hope you’ll post your plans and personal challenges to, like
so many have already. It will be good for you, I promise, and
helpful to others:

Forum threads of note:

Judy recommended a Firefox addon to speed things up, and make
browsing more secure:

I added it to my Firefox, no harm done so far.

Andy gave me a reminder about one reason I love the ePN affiliate

one of his links to something else, and that skyrocketed the value
of each click:

And the cool thing is, that’s not unusual.

What do you think, can you add anything to the list?

If enough people are interested, and we get enough posts to the

Be sure to post your year end, year beginning thoughts to this

It will be interesting to look back at it this time next year,
don’t you think?

If you’re new to Earn1KaDay, or didn’t remember this, all the
weekly emails, from the beginning of time, are archived on the blog
here:

If you ever miss an email, or want to check the archives, you can
always go there and do a search.

That’s just a short review of some of the highlights, there is much
more going on all the time at the forum. Don’t be a stranger
there, that’s where the primary value of your membership is, after
all. We’re not there to chat so much (though there is a lounge
there if you want to unwind), we’re there to learn from each other,
and share with each other, and as you can see from the above sample
threads, there’s a lot of that happening.

Until next week, I wish you the very best in everything.
