MMS Survey, software downloads, FTC stuff, and more

by 5buckguy

I’m writing the bulk of this email on Wednesday for sending out on
Friday. If you do receive it, the good news is that I survived
gorging myself on Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing and all sorts of
other goodies.

The bad news is that it’s a short news week most likely, with lots
of Americans taking extra time off to be with family and friends. I
hope you enjoyed it, whenever you get a chance to read this week’s
update.

Christmas is less than a month away, time to get serious about
those holiday themed sites of yours.

There are some very encouraging posts about people having huge MMS
success lately (’tis the season, after all), and I was thinking it
would be a good time to run a poll as to your experiences with that
as a business model. Please read the long drawn out question that
I posted here, and pick your best response:

Replying to the thread with your experiences, good or bad, would be
helpful also. It would give me some feedback about whether to spend
more time teaching and following up on the MMS strategy. For a
while I thought it might be dying out with the changes made by eBay
and Google, but now I’m not so sure at all.

In fact, early responses to the survey are telling me that maybe I
should be looking to expand on the training we have available for
the MMS business model. Let me know what you think by posting in
the thread.

Forum threads of note:

Gene posted a link to the Jim Edwards interview with an FTC
official, very interesting:

December 1st is the date when we all become at risk for being too
hypey in our sales copy and all that other stuff they’re cracking
down on such as results-based testimonials and giving positive
reviews if reimbursed in some way.

I spent a good part of this week checking all my sites and cleaning
up. I just remembered one or two that I had forgotten, and I woke
up this morning remembering a biggie: I hadn’t thought about
updating all the messages in all my autoresponder messages on
aWeber.

That’s going to be a fairly major job. I did notice that there’s a
global signature variable with aWeber that I’m going to take
advantage of, but still I have to insert that variable to the
bottom of every message. At least, using the global variable will
mean if I need to change it, I just need to change it in one spot
for each list.

Tom posted what he’s come up with for a disclaimer, and is letting
others use it as a basis for theirs:

I doubt if this warning applies to anyone here, but Dave posted a
link to a thread to keep in mind concerning post transaction
marketing:
http://www.earn1kaday.net/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9424

##########

And while we’re talking about government regulations, Stacy posted
about an attorney making a fortune suing businesses that spam fax
and cold call. Sounds like a good way to make a few extra millions
if you’re an attorney:

Some laws I can agree with, after all.

From the “think before pressing the send key” department:

Michael’s frustrated because he’s only getting upwards of 2000
clicks a day from free traffic at Bing. Read why here:
http://www.earn1kaday.net/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9433

The bigger news though is that he melted down a server and
HostGator had to shut him down for a while. Fortunately there was a
quick solution. He’s now achieved true guru status. :-)

eBay had its own technical problems over the weekend, affecting MMS
builders and others, but it looks like they compensated everyone
fairly anyway, somehow:

It pays to keep an eye on your sites when you’re spending big bucks
with AdWords. Back when I was doing that, I had a habit of waking
up in the middle of the night, around 3 a.m. and I felt it
necessary to check to make sure my server was operational. Once or
twice it wasn’t, so I paused my campaigns.

But in the case of eBay, even if the server’s running full speed
ahead, their feeds weren’t displaying auctions, which obviously
means you don’t get paid for any clicks that you’re expecting.

Arthur’s figured out, and is sharing a really neat technique to
turn an HTML page into a WordPress mini site template:

Stacy gave speed networking a try recently, and it seems to be
working out for her:

There’s a report in the download area about this, actually.

David Thomas and I have JV’ed to put together a product called “PHP
For Marketers”. It includes the webinar that’s in the download
section, but has several other pieces, including 4 videos by Robert
Plank about PHP, and what’s especially valuable is David explaining
how to set up what’s called a PHP IDE (integrated development
environment), which is actually equivalent to installing a server
on your desktop.

That’s always intrigued me, and even though I knew such a facility
existed, I didn’t realize it could be done so easily, and for free.

That’s just a short review of some of the highlights, there is much
more going on all the time at the forum. Don’t be a stranger
there, that’s where the primary value of your membership is, after
all. We’re not there to chat so much (though there is a lounge
there if you want to unwind), we’re there to learn from each other,
and share with each other, and as you can see from the above sample
threads, there’s a lot of that happening.

Until next week, I wish you the very best in everything.
