Most people in the U.S. have today off for a long Thanksgiving weekend,
but I’m at the office today. I don’t mind at all, I love what I do, and I can’t
understand the obsession with shopping at the same time everybody
else shops. Fortunately, since I have no “boss” to tell me otherwise,
I can schedule my shopping around the slow periods, like Tuesdays,
for example. But mostly I do it online now.
Sure, people shop for the specials. Here’s a good one. My son saw a
digital camera he would like, advertised at Staples as a special deal for
$199.97. I looked on amazon.com and saw it had a SRP of $199.98 and was
available on amazon for $179.99. With free shipping to boot. So much
for standing in line at Staples. So watch out for the impulse buys, no
matter how trustworthy the merchant normally is.
As online marketers, realize that Thanksgiving this year came on the
earliest possible date, November 22nd, so that’s a good thing for us that
are promoting merchandise for shoppers. That means the shopping
season is the longest possible this year. Take advantage.
Here are this week’s downloads for you:
Trend Cockpit:
/notloggedin.php
Don’t miss this one, it’s great. Sort of a companion, Keyword Cockpit,
should be added tomorrow sometime. I can’t upload it earlier because
of license restrictions.
WordPress Auto Popup:
http://earn1kaday.com/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1960
This makes it easy to put powerful popups on your WordPress blogs,
including timed popups where someone will get one popup the first
time they visit your blog, and a different one the next day, or next
week, sort of like an autoresponder. This was developed by one of
our members, Ulf Hedlund, and he’s asking for suggestions for
new features in the thread, so feel free to try it out and tell him what
you think.
Last week I mentioned Gregg Gillies’ audio (with a PDF), titled
“Insider’s Internet Profit Method”. He was giving us a special deal
(only $7) in order to get a bunch of testimonials prior to listing it
as a Warrior Special Offer. He’s got that scheduled for next
week, and as soon as that starts, he’s taking down our special, the
WSO will be more expensive. So you should grab this before it’s too

It’s not too early to start thinking about what kind of sites you want
to put up after the holiday gift season cools down the activity on
your merchandise niches. I have 2 niches I’m really excited about,
and I’m going to use Gregg’s method to build authority sites, and
drive a bunch of free traffic to them. My goal for 2008 is to reduce
reliance on Google AdWords traffic. Gregg’s system will help me
do that.
If you’ve already picked this up, please consider posting a testimonial
for Gregg here:

Here’s a terrific deal. You may have heard about it already, it’s a way
to get Camtasia for nothing (an old release), or the newest version
for half price. There are a few threads in the forum about it, and you
might have gotten emails, but if not, here’s one of the threads:

What you may not have heard about yet, is the fact that you can also
get the other Techsmith product, SnagIt, the same way. Go here:
http://www.oldapps.com/download.php?oldappsid=SnagIt725.exe
Then go here and fill out the form:
http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/ukdn.asp
and you’ll have a great screen capture utility. The deal on Camtasia
didn’t help me personally since I already own a newer version, but
I took advantage of the SnagIt promo, so I’m very happy about that.
Why is Techsmith doing this? I guess it should be obvious. They’re
hoping a large percentage of people who get the old version will
upgrade to the new one. The upgrade price is half of the regular
price, so the customer gets a great deal, and Techsmith gets a new
customer. Not at full price, but a half filled glass is better than an
empty one, or however the saying goes.
Now the thing is, once you get Camtasia and SnagIt, what are you
going to do with it? I found there to be a steep learning curve when
I was starting, but if you get Kevin Riley’s great tutorial, the learning
curve is reduced to one of his famous quick recipes. You can get
that tutorial here:

Then instead of getting Camtasia and not using it because you’re
frustrated, you can start building products. Do anything you like,
there’s a rabid market out there for video products. Even if you just
make $7 style products, or something to put on eBay, or something
to make a WSO with, video will give you an edge.
That’s it for this week. As always, keep plugging away, and I wish
you nothing but the best at this important time of year for IM’ers.
